THE LEAVES IN THE BREEZE

by Laura Veasey Williams

This is a heartfelt story for children that being bigger does not give them the right to control, bully, or disregard the rights of others. We need each other to survive, prosper, and fulfill our dreams. And being small does have its advantages. Learn a lesson from The Leaves in the Breeze.

Laura Veasey Williams

Laura Veasey Williams is a native of Dickinson, Texas- -a small town on the outskirts of Houston. She is a graduate of Wiley College, the home of “the great debaters,” with Denzel Washington in the rolling hills of Marshall, Texas. (She is in the movie.) After acquiring a BA in music, she goes on later to Prairie View A&M University for an MEd in counseling and guidance. She also had additional studies at North Texas in Denton, Texas. These credentials allowed her an interesting and fulfilling fifty-plus-year career in education. Seeing the world through the eyes of young people (K-12), staying abreast to assist in their dreams, and burning to motivate and fuel their lives caused her a five-time retirement or return to education. She also spent two years at Texas Southern University with a government program, assisting children with reading difficulties. Wow, what a journey.

Born and Not Wanted

Laura’s first book Born and not Wanted having her mother born in 1896 raised by her white grandparents after her birth to their son and a black servant, my grandmother. Our lineage is traced back to the Mayflower, Priscilla Mullins and John Alden, the first 5 Texans (Texas Rangers), Shanghai Pierce (in all history books) , President John Adams. This story depicts struggles and successes of a biracial child and adult through the years, that was protected with unconditional love by her white grandparents. Who says – I feel yah !
